Sabarimala Online Darshan Ticket Booking

In March, India implemented a nationwide lockdown, which led to the closing of all religious sites across the country. This included the Sabarimala Temple, located in Perinad Village, Pathanamthitta in Kerala. Dedicated to Lord Ayyappan or Dharma Shasta, the hill shrine of Sabarimala is now finally open for pilgrims, albeit with restrictions and a rather stilted start.

Along with the Kerala Police, the Travancore Devaswom Board manages the temple and ensures that all regulations are adhered to for 2020 darshan. Are you eagerly awaiting Sabarimala Darshan for the past year? You should be familiar with the rules and guidelines for pilgrims before you start to get excited about the trip. Follow this link to find all the latest news on Sabarimala and Mandala Kaalam pilgrimage 2020.

Sabarimala Darshan

Sabarimala opens for worshippers on the first five days of every Malayalam month and since its closure in March owing to the pandemic, the temple reopened doors on October 17 for prayers till October 21. The reopening guidelines for the temple stated that only 250 people could visit it to offer prayers. They must have COVID-19-negative certificates. These certificates must be received no later than 48 hours prior to reaching Pamba. For those not holding a COVID-19 certification, Nilackal conducted rapid antigen testing.

While trekking Vadasserikara or Erumeli trails, masks are not required. At Pampa river, bathing was also prohibited.

The temple was closed again immediately after the Hari Varasanam rendition on October 21.

On November 15, at 5 p.m., it opened again for the peak pilgrimage season called mandala Kaalam. During this time devotees trek along mountainous forest paths to Sabarimala temple and offer prayers. Pilgrimage season is when devotees of Lord Ayyappa travel from all parts of India, especially the southern states, to the holy shrine in the hills.

In the days leading to the mandala-kalam pilgrimage, devotees observe strict traditional practices called Virutham. Virutham, which is 41 days of fasting, penance, and abstinence from alcohol and all forms of abuse, is what devotees of Lord Ayyappa observe. They wear black or saffron clothes and Rudraksha mala around the neck.

After the Mandala Pooja ends on December 26, the temple will be closed for a brief period. The temple will reopen for Maharavilakku pilgrimage on December 30. Darshaan will close on January 19, as the Maharavilakku is over on January 14.
